New Year’s Eve by the sea for two: intimate, away from the crowds

Spending New Year's Eve by the sea as a couple is a completely different idea for the end of the year than a loud ball or a party that goes on until dawn. Instead of crowds and a set programme, you can enjoy an empty winter beach, the sound of the waves and an evening that belongs to you alone. In the last days of December, Władysławowo slows down after the peak season: only a few walkers stroll along the shore, fishing boats sway in the harbour, and the Baltic Sea feels at its most moving. Add a private jacuzzi, candles and a dinner for two, and you get a New Year's Eve with no taxi at 3 a.m. and no feeling that it was the same as last year. Here are our tips on how to plan such an evening and what New Year's Eve looks like at Elegante.

Why spend New Year's Eve by the sea, not in the city

The sea in winter is a very different force to the one you see in July. The waves are higher, the wind stronger, and the beach is completely empty. A walk along the shore on 31 December has something of a year in review about it: you walk side by side, talk or enjoy the silence, with no one rushing you. After a storm, you might spot amber in the sand, and the wooden breakwaters disappearing into the waves look their best in the low winter light that lasts throughout the day.

A city New Year's Eve follows its own rules: tables booked well in advance, loud music, a crowded journey home and noise outside the window the next morning. By the sea, outside the peak season, you regain your freedom of choice. Want to go down to the beach at midnight? It's a fifteen-minute walk from your bed. Would you rather stay in the warm bubbles of your jacuzzi and watch the year come to an end? No one will disturb you. That's what a quiet New Year's Eve is all about: freedom of choice, not a fixed programme.

One practical note: that tranquillity comes in limited numbers. We only have five apartments, so there are very few dates available over the New Year period. New Year's Eve in Władysławowo: a town outside the peak season

Władysławowo is best known for its summer buzz, but in winter it shows its calmer side. The fishing harbour stays busy all year round: boats are moored at the quayside, and the western breakwater stretches far out into the sea, so you can walk along it like a promenade. When the sea is rough, this walk is far more impressive than many paid attractions. Overlooking the town centre is the Dom Rybaka with its observation tower – the most iconic building in Władysławowo – and on the way you'll pass the Aleja Gwiazd Sportu. If you have a moment to spare, it's also worth visiting Skwer nad Zatoką on the quieter side of town.

There are two beaches to choose from, as the harbour divides the shore. On the open Baltic Sea side, at entrance number 1 with its footbridge, the stretch of sand is wide and this is where the waves show their full force in winter. On the Hel Peninsula side, the shore is calmer and full of shells, and the beach entrances towards Chałupy are very close to us. Both beaches are about a 15-minute walk from Elegante, so you can easily pop down to the water for half an hour before dinner.

New Year's Eve in an apartment with a jacuzzi

A New Year's Eve in an apartment with a jacuzzi has one clear advantage over any ballroom: the warm water and bubbles are yours alone, all day long. At Elegante, three of our five apartments have a private jacuzzi in the room:

• Apartament Lazurowy, 47 m²: our largest apartment, with a large double jacuzzi offering 7 programmes, a bedroom with arched ceilings and a separate entrance from the porch. Ground floor, no stairs.
• Apartament Turkusowy, 35 m²: a jacuzzi with water and air jets, plus an infrared sauna in the living room. The bedroom can be closed off by a separate door.
• Apartament Morski, 30 m²: a large double jacuzzi, kitchenette, ground floor and a separate entrance to the porch.

All apartments are for two people, with a double bed, air conditioning, a TV with Netflix and Wi-Fi. Bathrobes and slippers are provided in every apartment. You can start your soak before midnight on New Year's Eve and carry on into the New Year. If you let us know before your arrival, we'll have the jacuzzi filled with warm water ready for you when you arrive. A plan for a New Year's Eve for two

There's no single perfect schedule, but if you like to have a plan, we suggest the following:

1. Arrive at 16:00 when your stay begins. Unpack at your own pace – if you've booked a pre-prepared bath, the jacuzzi will already be filled with warm water.
2. Before sunset, head to the harbour: take a walk along the breakwater, see the fishing boats and the winter sea. On your way back, pick up anything you need for dinner.
3. Dinner for two. Our apartments with a jacuzzi have kitchenettes with crockery and cutlery, so you can cook for yourselves. Alternatively, choose our romantic package Superior, in which we'll serve dinner for two directly to your apartment.
4. After dinner, relax in the jacuzzi by candlelight – and in Apartament Turkusowy, you can also warm up in the infrared sauna.
5. Before midnight, wrap up warm and head down to the beach. A toast with the sound of the waves will stay with you for longer than most firework displays. If the weather isn't inviting, you can raise your toast in the apartment, in your bathrobes.
6. After midnight, there's no journey home to worry about: your bed is just a few steps from the jacuzzi.

The whole evening takes place in one space, with no car, no taxi and no cloakroom. You can walk straight back from the beach to your warm apartment – and that's one of the greatest comforts of spending New Year's Eve this way.

Candles, champagne and rose petals: a romantic setting

If you'd like your apartment to be ready for the evening when you arrive, add one of our romantic packages to your booking. The Standard package includes candles, a bottle of champagne with glasses by the jacuzzi, and bath accessories: bubble bath and fizzy bath bombs. The Premium package adds rose petals on the bed and around the apartment, a bouquet of red roses, a platter of fresh fruit and desserts. The Superior package also includes a dinner for two with a grazing board and desserts, served directly to your apartment at your chosen time. New Year's morning

The best way to start the New Year is without an alarm. We serve breakfast in your apartment: scrambled eggs made with local produce, homemade cake and vegetables from our garden, brought to you at the time of your choice. There's no buffet to rush for, as we don't have one.

Your stay ends at 10:30, but if you don't feel like heading home on 1 January, you can stay for an extra day. For your first walk of the year, you could stroll along the shore towards Chałupy, which are about 6 km from us, or drive to the lighthouse at Rozewie, a few kilometres west of Władysławowo. For a longer trip, there's the Hel Peninsula with Jastarnia, Jurata and Hel at its tip: in winter, the roads are free of the traffic jams that can disrupt plans in summer.

Elegante is adults only all year round, so even on New Year's Eve it's quiet here.
